The “Razvitie-1870” Community Center Theatre Troupe
The theatre troupe is one of the first groups of performing artists in Sevlievo. It was established in 1870, when the founder of the community centre Dr. Stoycho Hristov organizes and directs the first play “The Life and Death of the Holy Genevieve” by Ludwig Tieck. Over the last 150 years our stage has been a home to generations of talented actors, directors, artists, musicians, dancers and of course their supporting staff – electricians, lighting technicians, audio engineers, wardrobe managers and stagehands. All of them are continuously working to preserve and promote the love for the performing arts.
Over the last few decades, the leadership of the community centre has helped the theatre troupe to grow by attempting to bridge the gap between amateur and professional theatre. Numerous Bulgarian actors (V. Popiliev, I. Gerasimov, P. Dragoev, B. Galabov, K. Angelov) have contributed to the continued success of the theatre troupe. It is thanks to them, that the Sevlievo theatre has been impressively successful, earning commendations from critics and judges in the most prestigious theatre festivals in Bulgaria, including Prof. Dr. Vasil Stefanov, Prof. Dr. Nadezhda Seykova, Assoc. Prof. V. Gindeva, Dr. M. Vaptsarova, K. Gergitsov, M. Donkin and P. Panteleev.
The theatre troupe boasts a wide variety of trophies, including grand prizes, audience awards, and numerous individual prizes for male and female roles from theatre festivals in Lom, Kavarna, Topolovgrad, Sofia, Svishtov, Hisarya and Kozloduy. Some of our more successful performers from the last few theatrical seasons include: G. Marinov, H. Hristov, N. Atanasov, K. Cherkezova, R. Grozeva, D. Simeonova, A. Chochev, B. Lazarov, T. Ivanov, B. Lazarova, M. Marinov, M. Kuncheva as well as all other participants who helped create the spectacular performances of “Better dead than alive”, „Orisani”, “Gurbetchii” and „Vrazhalets”. It is their dedication and love for the art that helped create two more theatre troupes within the community center – the Youth Theatre Troupe and the Children’s Theatre Troupe.
